Korean Skincare Layering Order: Cleanser to Cream Cheat Sheet (2026)

Korean skincare textures in layering order from thinnest to thickest: toner, ampoule drops, oxygen bubble foam, hydrogel jelly and cream

Korean skincare textures in layering order from thinnest to thickest: watery toner, golden ampoule drops, oxygen bubble foam, hydrogel jelly and rich cream

By Viktoryia Tsishko, licensed esthetician and founder of Beauty Power · Updated October 2026 · 10 min read

Quick Answer: Layer Korean skincare from rinse-off to leave-on and from thinnest to thickest: cleanser, rinse-off mask (1 to 2 nights a week), toner, ampoule or serum, sheet or hydrogel mask, eye care, cream, then a sleeping mask at night or sunscreen in the morning. Let each watery layer settle for 30 to 60 seconds before the next. Use one main active per night, and always finish with a cream so skin does not end tight. Available on Amazon and on our website: beautypower.pro.

Key Takeaways

  • Rinse-off before leave-on. Cleansers, clay, oxygen and peel masks come off before any ampoule goes on.
  • Thin to thick. Watery toners and ampoules first, gels and sheet masks next, creams and sleeping masks last.
  • Sunscreen is the last step of the morning. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day.
  • One hero active per night. A spicule serum, an EGF duo and a peel do not belong on the same evening.
  • Seal every night. A cream or sleeping mask keeps water in after masks and actives.

The one rule behind every layering order

Every Korean routine, from a 3-step morning to a 10-step spa night, follows the same logic. Products that clean or exfoliate go first and get rinsed off. Products that deliver actives go on clean skin while it can still take light layers. Products that seal go last, because a cream or a sleeping mask slows water loss and holds the layers underneath in place.

A simple way to remember it: clean, treat, seal. Inside the treat stage, go from the most watery texture to the richest. A toner is thinner than an ampoule, an ampoule is thinner than a gel, and a gel is thinner than a cream. When you reverse that order, the heavy layer sits on top of the skin and the light one never gets a chance to spread.

I have done facials for 17 years and trained more than 30,000 professionals. The number one problem I see with home routines is not the products. It is the order. A good ampoule on top of a sleeping mask does almost nothing, and a clay mask used after a cream turns into a muddy film.

The layering order cheat sheet

Save this table. It works for any brand, and the right column shows the Orgahue product that fits each slot on beautypower.pro.

Step Category When Texture Orgahue example
1 Cleanser AM and PM Gel or clay gel Vitamin B Cleanser or Gentle Face Wash
2 Rinse-off mask or peel PM, 1 to 2 times a week Clay, oxygen foam, wash-off peel Illite Clay Mask, Soothing Oxygen Bubble Mask, Amino Regen Acid
3 Toner AM and PM Watery, bubble toner Copper Peptides + PDRN Bubble Toner
4 Ampoule or serum PM (light ones AM too) Watery to silky RG Vita Cell EGF Duo, RG Cell Ampoule, PDRN Collagen Booster
5 Sheet or hydrogel mask PM, 1 to 3 times a week Essence-soaked sheet Optional: any hydrogel sheet mask
6 Eye care PM Ampoule patches Peptide 104 Eye Mask
7 Cream AM and PM Light to rich RG Solution, Mela Barrier Cream
8 Sleeping mask PM, last step Thick cream film EG Fit Collagen Cream Mask, Ceramigen Mask
8 Sunscreen AM, last step Cream or cushion CCC Cream SPF 40, Light Fit Tinted Cushion SPF50+

You do not need every slot every day. A real weekday routine is often four steps: cleanse, toner, ampoule, cream. Masks and peels are weekly tools you slot into the same order when you use them.

Night routine order, step by step

Night is where layering matters most, because this is when you use masks and stronger ampoules. Here is the full order with what each step is doing.

Step 1: Cleanse

If you wear sunscreen or makeup, remove it first, then use a gel cleanser as your second cleanse. Choose Vitamin B Cleanser on brightening and Detox nights, and Gentle Face Wash when skin feels dry, tight or reactive. Massage for 45 to 60 seconds, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. My full comparison is in How to Choose a Korean Cleanser.

Step 2: Rinse-off mask or peel (1 to 2 nights a week)

This slot is for products that clean deeper and then come off: Illite Clay Mask, oxygen bubble masks, or the Amino Regen Acid wash-off peel. They always go right after cleansing and before toner, never at the end. Pick one per night. The one exception is the Illite plus oxygen stack, which is designed to be used together and is explained in Illite + Oxygen Dual Mask.

Step 3: Toner

Toner rehydrates skin after rinsing and makes the next layer spread evenly. The Copper Peptides + PDRN Bubble Toner is a soft blue foam that you press in with your palms. On busy nights, toner can be your only prep step before cream.

Step 4: Ampoule or serum

This is the treatment step and the reason the rest of the routine exists. Use a few drops, press with palms from the center of the face outward, and give it time to settle. Pick by goal: the RG Vita Cell EGF Ampoule Duo for brighter-looking tone, the RG Cell Ampoule for the look of denser, firmer skin, or the PDRN Collagen Booster for bounce. Spicule serums like Premium Celltox also live here, but they follow their own sandwich order (see Celltox night below).

Step 5: Sheet or hydrogel mask

A sheet mask goes after your ampoule, not before it. The sheet works like a lid that holds the ampoule against the skin for 15 to 20 minutes. When you remove it, pat the leftover essence in instead of rinsing. Sheet masks are optional. Our Detox home program skips this slot and seals with RG Solution peptide cream instead.

Step 6: Eye care

Eye products go on before your face cream so the cream does not block them. Apply Peptide 104 Eye Mask to clean, dry skin under the eyes, leave it for the time on the pack, then continue. Keep clay masks and spicule serums away from the lash line.

Step 7: Cream

Cream turns the routine into a closed system. Choose texture by skin type: RG Solution is an oil-free peptide cream for normal and oily skin, Mela Barrier Cream adds brightening and barrier support, and Cavicell Ultimate Cream is the richest option for dry, mature skin.

Step 8: Sleeping mask (optional, last)

On mask nights, a sleeping mask replaces or sits on top of your cream. It is always the final layer because it forms a soft film. Use EG Fit Collagen Cream Mask after actives, or Ceramigen Mask on nights when your barrier feels stressed. More detail: Overnight Collagen Mask Guide.

Morning routine order

Mornings are shorter and lighter. The goal is fresh, hydrated skin that holds makeup and is protected from UV.

  1. Gentle cleanse or water rinse. If your night routine was rich, use Gentle Face Wash. Dry skin can rinse with water only.
  2. Toner. Press in a thin layer.
  3. Light ampoule. One watery layer is enough in the morning, for example a few drops of the EGF duo.
  4. Cooling gel (optional). Puffy mornings: apply Cryocell Skin Ice with the chilled applicator after your ampoule. See Morning Cryotherapy at Home.
  5. Light cream. A thin layer of RG Solution or Mela Barrier Cream.
  6. Sunscreen, last. CCC Cream SPF 40 or Light Fit Tinted Cushion SPF50+. Sunscreen always goes on top so nothing dilutes or disturbs the protective layer. Reapply when you are outdoors for long periods.

How to layer two serums or ampoules

Korean routines often use more than one ampoule. That is fine if you follow three rules:

  • Thinnest first. If one is watery and one is silky, the watery one goes on first.
  • Duos come in a fixed order. The RG Vita Cell EGF Duo is labeled Ampoule 1 and Ampoule 2. Use them in that order, 30 to 60 seconds apart. My walkthrough: EGF Ampoule Layering After Detox.
  • One strong step per night. Do not combine a spicule serum, an acid peel and a high-strength retinol on the same evening. Split them across the week. If you add a new product, try it alone first so you know how your skin responds, as the AAD also advises.
Combination Same night? Why
EGF Duo + cream Yes Classic Detox finish
RG Cell Ampoule + Premium Celltox Yes, as a sandwich The Celltox protocol is built this way
PDRN Booster + RG Solution Yes Gentle bounce and peptide finish
Premium Celltox + acid peel No Too much stimulation for one night
Illite clay + Premium Celltox No Detox and Celltox belong on different nights
Three different ampoules Rarely More layers does not mean more results; two is plenty

How long to wait between layers

You do not need to wait 10 minutes between steps. You need to wait until the previous layer stops feeling wet and slippery.

After this layer Wait How to tell it is ready
Toner 20 to 30 seconds Skin feels damp, not dripping
Ampoule or serum 30 to 60 seconds Palms no longer slide
Spicule serum (Celltox) As on the label, often 10 to 15 minutes Follow the bottle
Sheet or hydrogel mask 15 to 20 minutes on skin Then pat in the rest
Cream 1 to 2 minutes before SPF Surface feels smooth, not greasy

Detox night and Celltox night orders

Our two home programs are good examples of the layering rule in action. Both follow clean, treat, seal. They just use different tools.

Detox night (pores and glow)

  1. Vitamin B Cleanser
  2. Illite Clay Mask
  3. Soothing Oxygen Bubble Mask on top of the clay, then rinse
  4. RG Vita Cell EGF Ampoule Duo
  5. RG Solution peptide cream (seal)

Full guide: Skin Detox Home Care Routine: 5 Steps.

Celltox night (bounce and barrier)

  1. Gentle Face Wash
  2. RG Cell Ampoule (first pass)
  3. Premium Celltox
  4. RG Cell Ampoule (second pass)
  5. EG Fit Collagen Cream Mask

7 layering mistakes I see every week

  1. Clay mask after moisturizer. Rinse-off masks belong right after cleansing.
  2. Sheet mask before the ampoule. The sheet should hold your ampoule in, not sit under it.
  3. Sunscreen mixed into cream. Apply it on its own as the last morning step.
  4. Stacking every active at once. One hero step per night gives calmer, more consistent skin.
  5. Rubbing instead of pressing. Pressing with palms spreads watery layers without pulling skin.
  6. No cream after masks. Clay and oxygen nights should never end with bare, tight skin.
  7. Too much product. A pea of cream and a few drops of ampoule cover the whole face. Heavy layers pill.

Copy-paste cheat sheet: PM: cleanse, rinse-off mask (weekly), toner, ampoule, sheet mask (weekly), eye care, cream, sleeping mask. AM: cleanse, toner, light ampoule, cooling gel (optional), cream, sunscreen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the correct Korean skincare order?

Cleanser, rinse-off mask or peel when you use one, toner, ampoule or serum, sheet mask, eye care, cream, and finally a sleeping mask at night or sunscreen in the morning. The logic is rinse-off before leave-on and thin before thick.

Does serum go before or after moisturizer?

Before. Serums and ampoules are thinner and carry actives, so they go on clean skin. Moisturizer goes on top to seal them in.

Where does a sheet mask go in a routine?

After your toner and ampoule, before eye care and cream. Pat the leftover essence in after you remove the sheet, then finish with cream.

Do I apply a clay mask before or after toner?

Before. Clay, oxygen bubble masks and wash-off peels go right after cleansing and are rinsed off. Toner comes after you rinse.

Is sunscreen the last step?

Yes, in the morning. Apply it after your cream and before makeup. A cushion with SPF, like Light Fit Tinted Cushion SPF50+, can act as both your sunscreen and your base.

How many layers is too many?

When products start pilling or skin feels heavy and congested, you have too many. Most people do well with four steps in the morning and five to seven at night, with masks only once or twice a week.

Can I use a sleeping mask instead of a night cream?

Yes. On mask nights, a sleeping mask like EG Fit Collagen Cream Mask or Ceramigen Mask can replace your cream. If your skin is very dry, use a thin layer of cream first and the sleeping mask on top.

Where can I buy the Orgahue products in this guide?

All of them are available on our website in the skincare collection, and many are also on Amazon.
